Milk Canisters

There’s a lot that you can do with all those used up milk powder cans.  I was already using mine to store things like kitchen utensils, but was inspired by my friend Amanda to turn them into something pretty:

Here’s what you’ll need: mod podge + paper (already decorated, or decorate your own)

A word on mod podge: this glorious glue can be used to adhere the paper onto the can, and also to provide a water-resistant varnish when painted on top of the paper.  You can make your own by stirring together glue plus water in equal quantities.  I found some “adhesive latex” glue locally that worked pretty well when diluted.

So it’s probably self explanatory, but you simply cut a piece of paper to fit around the can, glue it on, then use a paintbrush to layer on the mod podge finish.  As you can see in the photo, it’s a little streaky when you paint it on, but dries clear and even.  And that’s it!

  1. Aw that’s great – even better (for me) is the stove that you see in the background! We had a stove just like that when we lived in Chiang Mai! You could open the oven and see right through to our back yard! : )
